Money Saving Monday: We save to give – Haiti follow up story –

Be sure to check back every Monday for money saving tips for your family!

My kids donating our Money jar to World Vision

If you have been a reader of mine for any length of time I hope you have come to understand that one reason I save is to give. When the earthquake struck Haiti this past January my family and I were convicted to give even though we did not have any financial abundance to do so. I thought it appropriate to briefly mention how God blessed us as we searched for ways to give, and I am hoping that some of you will chime in on how you gave and how it blessed your family as well (so we can encourage each other!)

Our family sat down to brainstorm some creative ways we could raise money for Haiti with the resources we had and the result was this list of practical things we could do. I thought we would raise, at best $200 for the cause but were amazed to realize that we were able to raise over $600 to benefit Haiti! The most amazing thing to us was the amount we were able to raise through our bake sale, over $400!!! I was encouraged in so many ways by this venture. One of the greatest things was watching how God enlarged the hearts of my children when they realized they could work to help those who were hurting. You can read more about what we learned and how we did it on my personal blog but I wanted to encourage you that no matter where you are financially if God has called you to give look for ways to do so as a family.

Your turn: What ways have you been blessed as a family by giving generously? Have you ever looked for creative ways to give?

Bake sale goodies ready to go!
